 About TACT
TACT is a UK-based voluntary sector organisation registered under the Industrial and Provident Act 1965 (Registration Number: 27515R). TACT was set up in 1991 to commission and monitor residential and other services for people with learning disabilities leaving a long stay hospital in Berkshire before its closure.
At the end of the closure process it became clear that it was difficult to commission services for a number of individuals, principally those with marked additional needs and challenging reputations. TACT subsequently became a provider of residential services in its own right in order to resolve the situation.
Inclusion and equality are our birthrights. It's a sad fact of life that many of us are excluded, stereotyped or subjected to prejudice within our own communities. Here at TACT, we are committed to challenging this division through support, dedication and friendship. Our approaches aim to empower the people we support. We exist to enable our members to have higher expectations and to achieve more.
More and more people in our communities have some connection with someone who has a disability. The time is right to campaign and ensure sustainability within communities for the people we serve.
We don't just stick to what is familiar, but think creatively and laterally in a quest for improved life opportunities for the people we support. Our strategy is to continue to redirect the organisation from one that not only supports people to be in the community but also enables them to build sustainable lives and succeed within them. This commits TACT to evolve from being exclusively a 'care/support provider' to an organisation that develops, nurtures and educates communities for the benefit of everyone. As an organisation we aim to sustain growth to enable us to assist more of our members, by continuing to develop a high quality workforce where everyone has the opportunity to fulfil his or her potential.
TACT irrevocably undertakes to support people to develop and sustain integrated and included lifestyles, to need a diary…. to be busy…. to have interests, enthusiasms, valued roles and meet friends and make new ones.
To live the life - not the label.
